Why Do We Observe The Sabbath As A Sabbath Class?

The Lord's Sabbath is the seventh day which is the day the Lord rested from all his work. We observe the Sabbath according to the commandment that God gave man. The weekly Sabbath begins on the sixth day at evening and ends on the seventh day at evening according to Genesis 1:5, “the evening and the morning was the first day.” The weekly Sabbath is holy to the Lord (Genesis 2:2-3).

Activities Not Allowed On The Sabbath Day?

Working (Exodus 20:8-11), setting fire, cooking on the stove, in the oven or in the microwave (Exodus 16:22-23, Exodus 35:3), doing your own pleasures (Isaiah 58:13-14), buying and selling (Nehemiah 10:31).

Before the law there was the Sabbath: (Genesis 2:2-3)

After the law the Sabbath was still good: (Ezekiel 20:12)

Jesus in the New Testament kept the Sabbath: (Luke 4:14-16)

Revelation keeping the law, such as the Sabbath, is still righteousness: (Revelation 14:12)

It is our righteousness to observe the commandments, such as The Sabbath:(Deuteronomy 6:25)

We gather in Jonesboro to study the literal word of God, line by line, verse by verse,
honoring the sacred seventh-day Sabbath as a sanctuary in time.

We honor the seventh-day Sabbath as a holy day of rest, solemn assembly, and deep spiritual focus,
setting aside worldly cares to study His word.

Why We Observe the Feasts of the LORD

At The Church at Zion, we honor the biblical feast days because Scripture identifies them not merely as the feasts of a particular culture, but as “the feasts of the LORD”—His appointed holy convocations.

“Concerning the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.” — Leviticus 23:2

As a congregation that understands ourselves to be descendants of the biblical Israelites, we honor these appointed times as part of the commandments and heritage God gave to Israel. We do not observe them to earn salvation, but as an act of faith, obedience, remembrance, and reverence for God.

Below are the Feasts of the LORD that we observe and the scriptural foundation for each.

The Holy Feast Days Of The Lord, and what they mean?

The Passover:

The Lord’s Passover is through the partaking of the bread and fruit of the vine (Matthew 26:26-29), and commemorates the death of Jesus Christ. (I Corinthians 5:7-8)

The Feast of Unleavened Bread:

The Feast of Unleavened Bread is the gathering of the people of God feasting for 7 consecutive days, and commemorates the removal of sin from your mind and from your life. (I Corinthians 5:8)

The Feast of Pentecost / The Feast of Weeks:

The Feast of Pentecost, also called The Feast of Weeks, means 50 in the Greek translation, the people of God come together to feast, and commemorates God giving the Holy Spirit to the people of God. (Leviticus 23:15-21; Acts 2:1)

The Memorial of the Blowing of the Trumpets:

The Memorial of the Blowing of the Trumpets is not a day of feasting, but is a holy gathering observed by the people of God, commemorates the The Lord's return for the people of God. (Leviticus 23:23-25, 1 Thessalonians 4:16)

The Day of Atonement:

The Day of Atonement is not a day of feasting, but a day of fasting and a holy gathering observed by the people of God, and commemorates the The Lord's mercy upon all mankind. (Leviticus 23:26-32, Joel 2:12-13)

The Feast of Tabernacles: The Feast of Ingathering:

The Feast of Tabernacles, also called The Feast of Ingathering is the gathering of the people of God feasting for 7 consecutive days, and commemorates the The Lord gathering the people of God into His Kingdom. (Leviticus 23:33-44, 1 Corithians 15:20-23)

The 8th Day:

The 8th Day though not a day of feasting, it is a holy gathering observed by the people of God, and commemorates The Father being with the people of God forever. (Leviticus 23:36-39, Revelation 21:1-7, Revelation 22:1-5)

Our Path

Restoring Biblical Literacy in Georgia

At The Church at Zion, the Word is the centerpiece of our gathering. We make intentional time to pray, praise, worship, and reverence the Lord, but unlike many traditional services where these elements may occupy the majority of the gathering, we reserve 1½–2 hours specifically for studying God’s Word.

Our teaching isn’t centered on motivational speeches, personal opinions, or stretching a few verses into a lengthy sermon. We focus on in-depth teaching from the King James Bible—reading, examining context, and connecting Scripture with Scripture. In one gathering, we may cover the amount of Scripture often spread across four or five weeks of traditional sermons.

We believe “study to shew thyself approved” (2 Timothy 2:15) is a responsibility of every believer, but developing biblical literacy shouldn’t be something members are left to navigate alone. We intentionally use the time carved out for the Lord to help our congregation consistently read, study, and understand more of the Bible throughout the year.

And learning doesn’t stop when service ends. During our Bible Study Class immediately following service, members are encouraged to ask questions, seek clarity, share perspectives, and examine different interpretations through Scripture. We don’t approach learning God’s Word as a one-way street—we learn, study, and seek understanding together.
